Biography

Barbie Ross, a Houston native with a lifelong Hollywood obsession, spent her childhood watching sitcoms, collecting celebrity autographs, and dreaming of becoming a writer in Los Angeles. After earning a Psychology degree from St. Edward’s University, she began her LA journey, securing film/TV internships and was crowned “TV’s Biggest Fan” by CBS. Barbie writes female-driven TV and feature stories that explore the complex, often hilarious realities of millennial life – focusing on friendships, family, and love. While comedy remains Barbie’s passion, UCLA's program has allowed her to explore other creative avenues; writing hour-long dramas and a nostalgic jukebox musical for the stage. Before (bravely) returning to school in her 30s, Barbie accumulated a diverse range of professional experiences: a decade as a Personal Assistant at Apatow Productions, as well as roles as a nanny, customer service rep, script reader, communications specialist, high school reunion chair, holistic nutritionist, matchmaker, and bowling league organizer. Barbie combines her unique experiences and self-deprecating humor to create grounded stories that make people laugh. And yes, her parents really named her Barbie.
