Biography

Ellie Hunt is a writer from rural Northern Ireland. She was the BAFTA-Fulbright Scholar 2023-24, and is thrilled to be at UCLA thanks to their generous support. The first original pilot she wrote at UCLA was a second-rounder in Austin Film Festival's Screenplay Competition, and she was recently selected as a Sloan Foundation Screenwriting Grant semi-finalist.

Ellie was a first-generation student at the University of Cambridge, graduating with a B.A./M.A. Cantab in French and German. During her year abroad she interned at a documentary film distribution company in Paris, and after graduating she worked at a busy boutique talent agency in London.

As a writer, Ellie gravitates towards stories about brilliant women from the nineteenth century, the oddities of her home in Northern Ireland, the lives of performers (particularly in the world of dance), and dramedies about young people flailing through their twenties – even though she has no idea what that’s like, of course. Sometimes there’s a supernatural twist, and there’s almost always a side of romance.
