Biography

George Lanigan moved from England to Los Angeles in 2023.

After graduating from the University of Bristol in 2021 with a first-class degree in English, he became a high school teacher for two years in inner-city London. In his second year of teaching, George was promoted to Boys Achievement Leader, taking on the role of mentoring disadvantaged young men. He arranged school trips, guest speakers, and launched a successful reading initiative for reluctant male readers. He left teaching to pursue an MFA at UCLA, swapping West London for West LA.

George enjoys writing romantic, horror, and buddy comedies, as well as half-hour sitcoms. His work often explores the cultural contrast between America and Britain. After graduation, he hopes to pursue a career in film or television on either side of the Atlantic. He is also a playwright and was selected for the 2025 Geffen Playhouse young writer workshop.

George is a recipient of the 2024/25 BAFTA-Pigott Award.
