Biography

Jacob Shivers grew up in Connecticut reading, writing, making music and watching movies. They moved to California in 2016 to pursue a career in narrative media and graduated from Chapman University in 2020 with a BFA in Screen Acting, and minors in English and Ethics. During their undergraduate degree, Jacob also learned script supervision, post-production, and developed adept editing skills. Thereafter, Jacob successfully freelanced as an assistant and associate editor, working on a range of projects from music videos to commercials to a feature documentary that premiered at Tribeca Film Festival 2021. Then, after a couple years of gigs in Los Angeles, Jacob decided to apply to UCLA’s screenwriting program to develop a portfolio of genre scripts — science fiction, fantasy, and horror, with stylized, period-appropriate dialogue. Jacob takes inspiration from filmmakers like Hayao Miyazaki, Ingmar Bergman, Andrei Tarkovsky, and Agnes Varda — and most especially loves films that concern dreams. They hope to find work on a genre-based television show or video game, and aspire to eventually write and direct feature films.
